A Hebei scenic area has made a name for itself online by preying on people's worst fears when visiting a glass-bottomed walkway.

As you walk across the glass skywalk which hangs off the side of Taihang Mountain near the city of Handan, it appears to fracture underneath you -- a terrifying experience, as one tour guide apparently found out.

The last few years has seen a boom in glass-bottomed bridges/walkways in China. Ever since one bridge on Henan's Yuntai Mountain cracked back in 2015, most scenic areas have gone out of their way to demonstrate the safety and security of their sky-high walkways.

However, Taihang Mountain has decided to go the other way, using video screens, bits of actual broken glass and even sounds piped in of glass shattering to make visitors think that they are about to fall to their doom.

Many netizens noted that while the video of the tour guide falling over seems obviously faked for promotional purposes, there is a real chance that such a stunt could end in heart attack for a frightened visitor.

According to Mashable, the East Taihang tourism administration issued a half-apology for the prank earlier this week, while adding that it has no plans of actually removing the screens.
